Auto-Owners has entered into an agreement to acquire Capital Insurance Group of Monterey, California, according to a Tuesday news release.
“Adding Capital Insurance Group and its affiliates to the Auto-Owners family of companies expands our operating footprint into four additional states, providing access to more families and businesses to insure and giving us even greater geographic diversification,” Auto-Owners Chairman and CEO Jeff Tagsold said in the release.
In 2015, Auto-Owners acquired North Carolina-based Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company. In 2017, it affiliated with Concord General Mutual Insurance.
Auto-Owners was founded in Mount Pleasant, Michigan in 1916 and moved its headquarters to Lansing the next year. In late 1976, it moved operations into its current home office in Delta Township. Today, the company employs more than 4,700 people.
