Cyber Premiums Grew 61% as Threats Rose in 2021: NAIC Report

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) published its Cyber Insurance report, which used data from the Cyber Supplement as well as alien surplus lines data gathered by the NAIC’s International Insurance Department. The data for 2021 shows a cybersecurity insurance market worth approximately $6.5 billion, a 61% increase over the previous year.

Insurers writing standalone cybersecurity insurance products reported approximately $4.5 billion in direct written premiums, while those writing cybersecurity insurance as part of a package policy reported approximately $2 billion.

Foreign surplus lines insurers wrote $1.7 billion in direct written premiums, while US domiciled insurers wrote $4.8 billion.
