Renewal Rates Experience Variable Change Y-O-Y Across Commercial Lines; All Rates Up Month Over Month

Ivans® announced the April 2023 results of the Ivans Index™, the insurance industry’s premium renewal rate index. Year over year, Commercial Auto, Business Owners’ Policy (BOP), General Liability and Commercial Property experienced increasing average premium renewal rates, while premium renewal rates decreased for Umbrella and Workers’ Compensation. Consistent with the last 12 months, Business Owners Policy (BOP) and Commercial Property remain the highest premium renewal rate increases year over year. Month over month, all lines of business experienced increases in premium renewal rate change.

Premium renewal rate change by line of business for April 2022 highlights include:

  • Commercial Auto: 6.16%, up from 6.07% last month.
  • BOP: 7.6%, up from 7.31%, at the end of March.
  • General Liability: 5.5%, up from 4.98% the month prior.
  • Commercial Property: 10.09%, up from 9.14% in March.
  • Umbrella: 5.09%, up from 4.67% the month prior.
  • Workers’ Compensation: -1.22%, up from -1.33% last month.
