IICF holds future of work reform

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) United Kingdom Division, a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, will hold its sixth anniversary Gala Dinner on October 18 at Drapers’ Hall in London. This annual event will bring together insurance industry professionals and leaders, as well as representatives from local nonprofits and special guests, to recognize the industry’s collective impact in the community. This charity Gala aims to raise valuable funds for charities that help create better futures for people in need across England and Scotland.

The charity Gala, hosted by the IICF UK Board of Directors, will include television presenter Jonty Hearnden and remarks by John Amaechi, OBE, author of The Sunday Times bestseller “The Promise of Giants.” Douglas Samuel MBE, CEO of IICF’s charity partner Spartans CFA in Edinburgh, will also speak to guests at the dinner.

The IICF UK Board of Directors is led by Dawn Miller, Commercial Director at Lloyd’s of London, and includes representatives from leading insurers and related businesses such as AIG, AXA XL, Axco, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, Brandex Insight, Chubb, Connect Underwriting, Marsh, and Weightmans. These businesses have raised nearly £1 million for the IICF’s local community grants program.

The IICF UK is also supported by Lloyd’s in the United States, with Hank Watkins, Regional Director and President of Lloyd’s Americas, chairing the IICF International Board of Governors and serving on the IICF Northeast Division Board of Directors.

Dawn Miller was a board member for three years before being named Chair of the IICF UK Board of Directors, and she has been instrumental in IICF’s success in the UK. Dawn is also a member of the IICF International Board of Governors, and she has participated in the IICF’s annual International Step Up Challenge for charity in nearly twenty countries. Dawn’s role as Board Chair is to champion the UK Division’s philanthropic initiatives and to help build a larger membership base.

Asked about her work as Chair, Dawn said, “The vision of the IICF in the UK is to be a catalyst for impactful charitable giving as well as inspiring people in insurance to make a positive difference in local communities. I am personally inspired by this vision and the positive and powerful impact we’ve made in the lives of vulnerable people to excel at school, find meaningful employment and make a new start in life through IICF giving initiatives.”

“As we continue to involve more businesses here in the UK, what we are really doing giving the industry opportunities to make a difference, access diverse talent and ultimately help build a more sustainable industry.”

“Dawn is a widely respected international insurance leader and her leadership in enhancing our charitable profile and growing the number of insurance businesses supporting IICF UK is invaluable,” said Wendy Wilder, Executive Director of the IICF UK Division. “These efforts allow us to directly help charities advancing social mobility and helping people facing disadvantage.”

Since its inception in 2015, the IICF UK has helped to improve the lives of over 6,000 people in England and Scotland through grants to 25 nonprofit organizations that promote social mobility. In addition to the UK Division Board of Directors, the division has an Associate Board of 25 young professionals and four Affiliate Members – small businesses and companies in the early stages of their CSR/ESG journey.

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has five divisions, four of which are based in the United States. Since its inception in 1994, the IICF has granted a total of $42 million worldwide.

The IICF UK recently announced an anonymous £20,000 grant to boost charity proceeds at the annual UK Gala Dinner. This event is made possible by the generous support of the insurance industry, including Bronze Sponsor Capgemini and Reception Sponsors CNA Hardy and Weightmans.
