Three Hilb Executives Die in Honduras Plane Crash

Three executives of Hilb Group LLC died in a plane crash near Roatán, Honduras on Saturday, May 18.

New England regional leader Rob Miller, Tri-State regional leader Brad Post and Mid-Atlantic regional leader Rick Tepel were traveling together on a personal fishing trip to Honduras, according to the report, citing a Hilb Group spokesperson.

Miller was also managing director at Dowling & O’Neil Insurance Agency Inc., and Tepel served as managing director of Raley Watts & O’Neill.

Hilb Group CEO Ricky Spiro, CEO of Richmond, Virginia-based Hilb Group, said in a statement emailed Tuesday: “We are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss of our colleagues and friends Brad Post, Rob Miller and Rick Tepel. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and loved ones, as well as to the families of others lost in this terrible accident.”

According to news reports, the men’s Piper single-engine plane crashed into the Caribbean shortly after taking off from Roatán, an island off the Honduran coast. The plane was headed for the port city of Trujillo, about 50 miles away.
